Looks like Ole Miss may be in for a rude awakening this year. They are 0-1 now, and travel to Alabama this Saturday. They could easily finish sub 0.500 this year, as will (likely) Mississippi State. If so, look for Roy Klumb, Scott Ross, Amy Whitten et al. to beat up on USM even more, as they relieve their gridiron frustrations. That's my pick for the week.
It is really a shame that for personal reasons Shelby does not support JB. Jeff's Tuesday night at G'fiileds is a good show. I have never seen Shelby attend and support the team or Jeff. None the less, my support is for the team and Jeff. Regardless of the situation at hand we need to support our team!

Poster, while I lived in the area I was a tangible and regular supporter of Golden Eagle athletics in fair weather and foul - including but not limited to being an Eagle Club member and a season ticket holder in football and basketball. That level of support, however, does not come without some expectations. For instance, I note with interest that your post said, "Regardless of the situation at hand we need to support our team." Gary Stringer, Frank Glamser, and the USM faculty needed support last Spring. The very least support I expected from the athletic department was silent neutrality on the issue at hand. I have on what I believe to be good authority that such was not the case. I respectfully disagree with your unconditional phrase "Regardless of the situation at hand . . . " Unconditional support existed in World War II Nazi Germany. My USM is much too important for me to subscribe to a "Regardless of the situation at hand" philosophy.

Sorry I mis-read you. There has been a lot of discussion on this board about how Giannini ordered the coaching staff to attend the pro-Thames rally & to tell the players not to participate in the student rally supporting the professors. I thought you might have been going in that direction.
My apologies again, sir (or madam, as the case may be).

I do know that Mrs. Giannini has been a cheerleader all over town for Thames--even to the point of "slandering?" some of the faculty and its supporters.

An important point is Giannini is a strong supporter of Thames, but Bower may not be. It's no secret that rumors are flying around that SFT will get rid of Bower at the end of the season and further rumors that Bower will seek another position at a (larger) institution winning season or not. What is fact is that SFT was VERY embarrased by Southern Miss's losing appearance in the Liberty Bowl and verbally confronted Bower outside the lockerroom. Since then, there has been no "support" . What may be in the faculty's best interest is to decide if supporting Bower (and getting a winning season, too) will help rid us of SFT. Remember that Bower has not signed his contract extension and this may (according to rumor) be due to the wording on "termination of services" As was said earlier, support is a two way street, but, the enemy of my enemy might be my new best friend................just some words to think on...........
