College Board reveals concept for second Coast campus
Other universities' courses may be offered to fulfill students' needs

GULFPORT - College Board reveals plans for second Coast campus

USM may host other schools

State education leaders haven't formally voted on the site for another campus of the University of Southern Mississippi, but they did talk openly Thursday night about the form and function that campus might take.

For the first time in a public forum, members of the state College Board talked about a "university center" concept - the idea that although USM would run the campus, other universities could be invited to offer programs USM may not have the personnel or funding to offer, such as engineering....

From the end of the article:

Not to overly analyze the words from the article or Professor O'Brien's note of them, but wouldn't it be highly unlikely for an academic to begin a new job at any time other than June-August with the possible exception of January 1?

In other institutions where I have been the new executive sometimes began transitioning during the outgoing President's administration. This didn't involve a full move but did involve some extended campus visits during which meetings with major parties were conducted. The new President also started viewing the budget process, although I don;t know that he/she had any influence on that process directly.

Decision near on new Coast campus

GULFPORT - A decision about the location of a new campus planned for the University of Southern Mississippi on the Gulf Coast could come as soon as next month, Higher Education Commissioner Tom Meredith said Thursday....

...Meredith also updated the audience on the search for a new Southern Miss president, a process that reaches its next milestone early next month when the campus-based Search Advisory Committee sends at least five favored résumés to the state College Board's search committee for further review....
