This is so silly and nit-picking I'm almost ashamed to mention it, but then again, I'm ashamed to see it on the USM web site. When you go to the page about Sir James Galway's upcoming performance, you note that he is repeatedly called "Sir Galway" instead of "Sir James." I know this is minor, but it's very jarring, and after all USM is a university.
LVN, the orchestra is fabulous. But they do have a history of egregious typographical errors. (You should have seen the punctuation when Leontyne Price came to teach.) Also, one of the faculty members who used to complain about it also used to proof read for them. But this person is now on babbs's list.
p.s. the quality of work from the faculty member as a proofreader is verified by the fact that he/she was hired by a TIER ONE university, a school that sees the significance and future possibilities of this person's research. In other words, another loss for the home team.
The person who was proofing wasn't a writer, just a complainer in the best sense of the word and a good citizen. I'm sure proofing the orchestra notes wasn't on his FAR. (He also used to get frustrated when his corrections didn't make it into the program.)
And more than one faculty member complained about the typos.
