Dr. Elliott Pood, dean of the Southern Miss College of Arts and Letters, Dies
Hattiesburg - Dr. Elliott A. Pood, dean of the University of Southern Mississippi College of Arts and Letters, died unexpectedly Wednesday. He was 56.
Dr. Pood was chosen as dean of Southern Miss' College of Arts and Letters in June of 2003.
"This is a sad day for me and the rest of the university community," said Southern Miss President Dr. Shelby Thames. "We've lost a great colleague and friend with the passing of Dr. Pood. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family."
Needless to say, this was a shock to everyone in the College of Arts and Letters and the university. It should serve as a reminder that any of us could be gone tomorrow. We need to live each day as if it were our last.
Even though individuals within the College did not agree with all of his decisions, no administrator can keep everyone happy all of the time. My dealings with Dr. Pood were pleasant. Mrs. Pood is an extremely nice person.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Pood family.
