I interpreted it as "let's keep it in the family" -- in other words, she thinks its irresponsible for them to take internal disagreements to the press. However, it would be nice if Mr. Klumb extended his freedom-of-speech dignity and respect to the faculty as well as to his fellow board members.

That was part of it, but there was a concern with a lack of shared governance within the board. All the board members got hammered in the press for going out of state, but it seems that not everyone was involved in the decision.
Absolutely, thanks for adding that important point. And upon re-rereading that seems to be her concern. She is quoted in other contexts urging people to "keep it in Mississippi" and then this happens. But what about the guy who said he disagreed with her?

She is the new kid on the block. I interpreted that as an attempt to put her in her place. However, I'm guessing she can take care of herself.
