MUW alumni will have opportunity to vote on changes
The membership of Mississippi University for Women's restructured alumni association next April will have the chance to approve or reject changes its leaders craft with the university president.
If alumni don't accept the proposals, the association's official affiliation with the university can be terminated, according to an agreement announced Thursday by MUW President Claudia Limbert and MUW Alumnae Association President Betty Lou Jones.
In formalizing the ties, Limbert and Jones agreed that the MUWAA's board will draft a new constitution, bylaws and mission statement for the university president's consent. If she approves them, the proposed mandates are presented to the association's members for a vote. They're scheduled to hold their annual meeting in April....
...Limbert had proposed being given veto power over the group's new bylaws, but that was not accepted by Jones, according to the agreement announced Thursday.
The signed affiliation pact does say the MUWAA can't change its bylaws in the next five years unless the MUW president approves the revisions....
