1. baller reports that the NCAA has finishing dusting off the mess with Georgia's basketball program. Now the men's basketball division can turn more attention to other issues/programs. According to baller, one of these will surely be LE's program. Thanks baller.
2. Interesting e-mail just arrived from insider. Here's a snip: ".. ..I couldn't help but notice the big Workforce Training Center on the PRCC campus (H'burg) on the way to graduation today . . . might as well have been gazing over at USM ....."
3. ntsft reports that some meetings are scheduled in the dome for the coming weeks to discuss some "reorganizations.." and "other ways" to find "savings" that can fund the next round of pay raises. ntsft reports that another widespread one will not likely appear early 2006 or so. gorod says look for a small, secret type possibly this January.
4. crusader sends word that WCC officials are extremely excited about kicking off '04-'05. They hope to continue to "do well" with students in the surrounding year, and should have some more news to release about additional more USM faculty/staff joining the WCC community. Thanks crusader.
Baller is full of it. There is no men's basketball division in the NCAA enforcement realm. It is absolutely ridiculous the crap that the board moderators allow to be posted in the daily rumor mill. It destroys any credibility that may be posted by concerned faculty or staff members. What garbage.
Don't know about a "men's basketball division," but do know Eustachy has already signed almost 10 players (with one recent commitment the other day), more than a few of questionable backgrounds and characters. It has been reported independently on this board that there may be some troubles looming with USM's men's bball program.
The former assistant coach at AL has an attorney that is suing the NCAA, and is reporting that the inner workings of the Association are, for the most part, unknown to the viewing public. Funny, you seem to act like you know more than he does (or has found out).

I know that this rumor is totally bogus. The NCAA has limits on how many players a school can sign. Eustachy knew that many would not be eligilbe, they will attend Junior College and possibly sign with Southern Miss at a later date. By the way, the commitment the other day was for next year.

The biggest building at PRCC Forrest County Center is their Allied Health Building, which houses a variety of occupational programs. I can't remember all of them, but surgical tech & dental hygiene come to mind. I think there is an LPN program there, too. About the only allied health program that PRCC hasn't opened in H'burg is Associate Degree Nursing, which is still based in Poplarville.
Workforce development is housed at that center, but there's a lot more to PRCC Forrest County than just those noncredit programs.
I'm sorta surprised that PRCC's president, William Lewis, hasn't been mentioned as a possible future prez at USM. He is a classy guy.

Invictus, I can vouch for that! What a great idea.
This "oversigning" deal is something that Green, nor Bower for that matter, have historically gotten themselves into. Bower's players qualify. The Eustachy era, whatever it may bring, will likely be something "new" for USM basketball in many ways.

ru·morn.
A piece of unverified information of uncertain origin usually spread by word of mouth.
Unverified information received from another; hearsay.
Well, once again we hear the old "no credibility" criticism. Read the topic name. It's a rumor. If you want credible news, read the Hattiesburg American. Well, on second thought. . .
Anyway, just because baller may have mistated the name of the investigative body does not mean there is no investigation, does it? Or is killer saying that the NCAA does not enforce rules regarding men's basketball?
I can't believe the board monitors allow such ambiguous postings.
Good post Good Rumor Man. I fully anticipated Rumor Killer coming back and saying that "oversigning" is perfectly legal (by NCAA rules). To that it could be said that claiming a home office deduction if you work out of your home is okay too, but doing so will up your odds of an IRS audit exponentially. That may be a good analogy for Eustachy's case.

The NCAA Committee on Infractions said it was troubled by "the number and range of instances of unethical conduct in which the assistant coach engaged. In this regard, the committee could recall few, if any, instances in which three separate and substantively different findings of unethical conduct were made against one individual.''
The basketball team will lose one scholarship for each of the next three seasons, forfeit its 30 victories from the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons and lose official credit for participating in the 2002 NCAA tournament. - Sports Illustrated
