Six from area to sit on ASU search board

An advisory committee of professors, alumni and others has been appointed to help with the search for the next president of Alcorn State University.

The group will include Dr. David Addae, a Vicksburg native and professor of advanced technologies and faculty senate president; Dr. Gerald Ritter, a Vicksburg native and professor of education and psychology; Ramel Cotton, a Vicksburg attorney who practices in Jackson; Dr. Paul Broome of Port Gibson, department chair in English and foreign languages; Robert Gage, a Port Gibson banker, who is ASU Foundation Chair; and Karen Shedrick of Port Gibson, executive secretary and administrative assistant to the president....

...the IHL will not release names of applicants to anyone not directly involved in the hiring process.

Other committee members are:

• Dr. Alpha Morris, committee chair, department chair and professor in social sciences.

• Dr. Vivek Bharqava, assistant professor of MBA program.

• Trena Boyd, undergraduate student and Miss Alcorn.

• Larry Edward Duncan, undergraduate student and Student Government Association president.

• Donna Hayden, Banner coordinator and president of Staff Senate.

• Karen Hollowell, graduate student

• Laplose Jackson, vice president for student affairs.

• Dr. Alton B. Johnson, assistant professor of agriculture and Faculty Assembly president.

• Wiley Jones, interim athletic director and special projects director.

• Jewel Lockhart, Alcorn State alumna.

• Debra McDonough, assistant director of nursing.

• Dr. Doris McGowan, department chair in education and psychology.

• Freddie Owens, Alcorn State alumnus and National Alumni Association president.

• Dr. Edward Vaughn, dean of the General College for Excellence.

• Dr. Steve Wells, dean of the College of Business.

• Phillip West, Alcorn State alumnus and Mayor of Natchez.
