Wednesday deadline given for alums to OK agreement
JACKSON - Mississippi University for Women President Claudia Limbert has issued an ultimatum for the MUW Alumnae Association by Wednesday to agree on how to be affiliated with the university....
...Mayo - an Oxford attorney who represents MUW in lawsuits and other legal disputes - said the bargaining sessions with the alums have been difficult.
“The university has extended the negotiation deadline (for a third and final time) until tomorrow at noon, in hopes that an agreement can be reached,” he said.
As ordered by the state Board of Institutions of Higher Learning, all Mississippi universities must formalize affiliations with their alumni associations to ensure they're operating “with honesty and integrity.”...
..The university's proposed affiliation with the MUWAA, as originally offered, would: require the group to give MUW an annual report of alumni's planned activities for the coming year with input from the university's alumni director subject to Limbert's approval; make the university president a nonvoting member of MUWAA's board of directors and executive committee with the right to attend their meetings; change the way officers are nominated; empower the university president to inspect alumni association financial records and have them audited; and prohibit MUWAA from getting into fundraising activities without the university president's approval.
