Bobby and Betty Chain are giving Gary and Mary Ann a going away party Friday night. Over 150 people were invited and less than 10 people sent regrets. Now that's love!

This was a terrific thing for the Chains to do. I was honored to receive an invitation (though I couldn't attend, because I'm still in Raleigh), and the invitations themselves were great. They were worded something like, "to thank Drs. Gary and Mary Ann Stringer for their service to USM and to the City of Hattiesburg."
I'd like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Chain for their support of the Stringers, and of USM faculty generally, in these past months.
It was awfully nice of Bobby Chain to recognize the many contributions of Mary Ann and Gary to Hattiesburg and the university. They are good folks, indeed.
Why do you think it will be like an Irish wake? I don't understand. Help me, please! I am neither Irish nor up on the classics. You know, the more education we receive, the more we know about fewer topics.

It is a bitter sweet celebration of a life lived and the passage to a better place.
As one Clancy brothers song put it,"Isn't it grand boys to be bloody well dead?"
It's so quite tonight. Was everybody invited to the big party except li'l ol' me? I'll bet my phone was off the hook. Yes, that has to be it. My phone was off the hook.
