Property sought for new Coast campus Former L.B. mayor to oversee the effort
GULFPORT - The state's top college official said Thursday the board is looking at property for a new Coast campus but can't say where or whether his office has received offers of donated land.
Tom Meredith, state commissioner of higher education, said College Board members don't want to reveal too much information now for fear it will drive up the price of land....
...According to the state Open Meetings Act, governments can discuss economic development, including land transactions, in closed session.
"Our board, under the Open Records Act and Open Meetings, has the right to keep certain items, certain discussions, not public," Meredith said. "No one's trying to do anything here. There's no deal being cut with anybody getting something on the side. I can give you all assurance of that."...
Do any of our coast colleagues have an additional inside information on where they might move the campus? What are the plans for Gulf Park, with its new (and relatively unscathed) library and AEC? When I was on the campus over the summer, the back buildings (Holloway complex, B-School) looked fine.
