I've got an idea! Let's suggest to SFT that he contract with a bunch of doctors to open practices in these hospitals, get USM all over the news (Go Lisa! Go Lisa!), and then (when USM realizes that it has no way to fund these activities) totally shaft the doctors, leaving them on the verge of bankruptcy! I'll bet SFT & Co. haven't thought of that angle!
I think it is a good idea for USM to start acquiring property that could one day be a medical school. A college of osteopathic medicine would be ideal. The closest one's to southern are in Miami and Fort Worth and DO's tend to focus on primary and family medicine which is desperately needed in Miss and the southeast in general. I think you draw from a different kind of med student so you are not necessarily competing against UMC, Tulane, and USA. I have known several people that have gone to Kansas for a DO degree. Seeing that there are only about 20 such schools in the nation, I think USM would have a national draw for this type of school.
