I would like to let everyone know that there will be an AAUP meeting this Thursday (10/12) in OMH 227 from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.  We would like to encourage everyone to attend.

The local chapter of AAUP has been a staunch defender of academic freedom, shared governance and the welfare of the university. During this critical period of transition it is important that faculty members stand together for academic integrity. I encourage all faculty members to seriously consider joining AAUP and to support their AAUP colleagues who have worked tirelessly for the benefit of the faculty and students. AAUP members have been actively involved in important campus bodies such as Faculty Senate, Academic Council, and Graduate Council. It's time for others to step up and speak up.

We welcome all faculty to become a part of the USM chapter of the AAUP. In an effort to share what the Chapter is about all faculty are welcomed to join the local chapter for $10 for the first year without having to join the national organization. We welcome your participation and look forward to seeing you at the October 27th social in the Thad Cochran Center, where Dr. Frank Glamser will offer his thoughts on "The Meaning of Academic Freedom." The social will begin at 4 p.m. We look forward to seeing you there.

Joe Olmi, Chapter President
