Note that the only thing ranked lower in the agenda is "parking concerns."

I asked this repeatedly on the old board & got no answer. Maybe this time is the charm:

WHEN DOES USM 'OFFICIALLY' START ITS SELF-STUDY?

Early prediction: If the self-study really doesn't fire up for another 18 months, SFT will show no interest in it, because the recommendations will have to be addressed by his successor. And if USM finds itself with serious issues to address, stuff that threatens institutional accreditation, well, that's just playing the game as defined by the IHL "controllers."

Sorry Invictus, I don't know the answers either.

I thought someone would comment about item #5,
"5.Update on Faculty/Staff Terminations", because of all of the rumors floating around this board.
I was surprised by the use of the word "terminations" rather than departures. Maybe the president will update the data he provided last meeting. Maybe he read Babbs'list.

Perhaps he mistakenly believes that Gary and Frank were terminated. The thing that should be announced at Wednesday's meeting is that the IHL, or the university, is awarding some sort of financial reparation to those two men and their families who were to badly damaged. Awarding reparations would be the right thing to do. Did you say something about doing things right?    Right.

I find the word "termination" offensive. If it is referring to Gary and Frank - SFT needs to be reminded that - it didn't happen. Once again, I'll bring up an older thread started by Swan Song:

From a March 16 HA article:

"University of Southern Mississippi President Shelby Thames berated two suspended tenured professors Monday for not agreeing to an open hearing into the reasons for their impending terminations.

"They're robbing the students," Thames said of sociology professor Frank Glamser and English professor Gary Stringer. "They're robbing the faculty. They're robbing the supporters. They're robbing the very people who supported them from hearing the truth."

It is the taxpayers of Mississippi who have being stolen blind - but not by Gary and Frank. And yes, it appears that the IHL aided and abetted in the USM debacle by sitting back and watching Gary and Frank as they were brutally attacked in what should have been a safe environment. Just what is going on up in Jackson anyway?

I would hope that someone would ask about the status of the raises and ask about the appeal processes that will be used since many faculty are likely to be disgruntled with their raises.

The appeal process should be clearly published in the Faculty Handbook - if one really exists.

The Thames admin. choose to ignore it. I hope someone really pushes this issue.
