Apparently, you can add Curtis Austin (History, Director of Oral History Program) to this list (headed to Jackson State if USM doesn't match the offer).

I suppose this is really none of my business, but does your system actually allow for one state university to compete with another for a faculty member at another state school? It is commonplace for faculty members to move from one state school to another - and at a higher salary - but I have never heard of a bidding war in those instances. Normally, there would be some sort of agreement between the presidents, and the deal would be done.
A comparison with other schools would be good here. The baby-boomer generation is leaving at alot of schools, not just this one. I am glad finally to see an effort on this list is being made to show which ones are retiring. I would not make the list encompass more than one year though--as seems to be the direction that it is going--unless of course the purpose is to imply that Thames ran all these people off. That is, the list is becoming overkill and I would rather see the new ones that are leaving rather than be constantly reminded of those who left one or two semesters ago.

That's terrible if they lose him. I had him for several classes and of course it was out of choice. I believe he is the only regular faculty member whose field is race relations/civil rights. I guess his new book about the Black Panther Party will have him listed as a JSU faculty member. That would put the history department at 3 loses: Harper, Jensen, Austin.

A number of people who "retired" actually accepted a job elsewhere, but will draw Mississippi retirement. There are others who retired earlier than they had originally planned.

Shadow is right. The term "retired" does not mean one has not moved on to another university. Even USM has had persons on its payroll, including high-level administrators, who "retired" from another university.are still working. Shadow is also right when he said that others retired earlier than they had originally planned. I am one of those. I could take it no longer.
