Hudson gains UH-Victoria prez job
Permalink Closed

Snippet from the news release, came out just before noon:

HATTIESBURG -- Dr. Tim Hudson, Hattiesburg Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at The University of Southern Mississippi, has been named the finalist for the position of president at the University of Houston -Victoria, officials from both schools announced today.
"I am very excited about this opportunity for my family and for me," Hudson, 50, said. "I am humbled to be selected to serve in this capacity, and I am honored by the confidence being placed in me by the UH board of regents, the chancellor, the community and everyone at the University of Houston -Victoria."
The hiring, Southern Miss President Dr. Shelby Thames said, reflects Hudson's sterling credentials and capable leadership while further illustrating Southern Miss' growing national stature.
"This is great news both for Dr. Hudson and for The University of Southern Mississippi. Having one of our own administrators considered and selected for such a prestigious position reinforces our belief that Southern Miss is a world-class university," Thames said.
"It seems our reputation for nurturing and producing top-notch talent is starting to make itself known. The word about Southern Miss is getting out. It is my belief that Dr. Hudson will make a supremely capable president, and I extend the best of wishes from myself and the entire Southern Miss family."
Thames said he will appoint an interim provost before beginning a national search to replace Hudson.

I'm sure we all wish Dr. Hudson the very best in his new role.  Now if you will all join hands, the prayer service for the new provost will begin . . .

Yes the word is getting out, sir. I live hundreds of miles away, and even people here have heard about the manner with which your professors were treated. They even know their names.

This warrants repeating here:

Well, folks.  It has been real and it has been fun.  I can't say that it has always been real fun.  I can say that I've done my part and now it's time for someone else to pick up the mantle.

Chess has switched to golf and will leave you all with this final word...FORE!

So another native Mississippian is moving on. There have been others, you know.  I, for one, am yet to recover from trauma I endured some years ago in the pre- Thames era. Even Exit 13 would pale by comparison.

I wish Dr. Hudson well.  It is another great loss for our University and yet another gain for Texas.  No doubt our national profile is growing but the Thames suggestioning a national profile is truly world class @&%%.  It is humiliating to see USM where it is today  I am grateful to no longer be a part of this and only wish that I too had gone to Texas with Gary and Hudson.  Being gone is good enough.

It may mean that CHESS is now going to post as FORE.

No, no. If he started posting as FORE, that means he would be posting by TWO.

Ha, ha, ha - Nurture? ha, ha, ha - Produce? ha, ha, ha

Top notch talent? When did you recognize that, Shelboo?

"The word about Southern Miss is getting out" - AHA, Shelbeee you never nurtured, you never produced, you never recognized the top notch talent you had (because talent is a whole different definition in your world), but you are right the word is getting out -- just not in the way that you think.

Cross Country Eagle already said in an earlier post on this thread: "Yes the word is getting out, sir. I live hundreds of miles away, and even people here have heard about the manner with which your professors were treated. They even know their names."  But it is so good to hear it repeated. Say it again, please. It sounds so good.

Exactly, CCE. I resent him taking credit for Producing and Nurturing Top Notch Talent when all he did was create a terribly  toxic environment that basically forced me to seek another job, in (using his words) a more "prestigious" place.

Oh, yes, the word is getting out!!!

"Gone to Texas." I suggest Webster add this phrase as a companion to the dictionary's oft cited "Vacationing in Texas."

Your wish is my command Dr. Invictus. Here's what I think. I'll strive to be uncharacteristically serious just this once.

I'm not at all surprised at this selection. In fact I posted here some weeks ago that my UH sources placed Timmy in the favorite's position for the UH-Victoria job. He looks good on paper, and I imagine he'd interview well, given his gift for BS.

I have more than a passing acquaintence with TH, and my take is that he's smart, wily, and capable, but has a little trouble with his moral compass. Sometimes he even leaves it at home. I don't know whether this behavior evolved as a survival technique, or is innate. If Tim can adapt to a non good-old-boy milieu and work under a competent straight-arrow chancellor, he could do well. But, I have my doubts. UH-V is still in its infancy, but UH has grown to be a first rate (if not yet "world class") university, and I don't think the old Hudson/USM managerial paradigm will bring success or longevity. It'll be interesting to observe whether, with a different mentor and a capable board of regents watching the store, he'll change his ways.

Thanks, AE.

How he pans out at UH-V will probably answer your question about whether his style has been a survival strategy or is innate. He will be in a different environment, that's for sure.

<sarcasm>I suppose I need to alert Chancellor Gee that if he wants Vandy to be "worl' class," he should start encouraging his provost to look for another job.</sarcasm>

Stupid, stupid, stupid.  What a crazy, mixed-up world Shelboo must inhabit if this is his definition of "worl' class!"

I understand that UH is a good school, but I've never heard of UH-Victoria until now. What is so "prestigious" about this job? You'd think he got hired by Harvard, Yale, or Princeton. Shelboo is hallucinating.

i think a lot of sphincter muscles are relaxing in the dome.  (maybe the flatus will be passing)  TH and associates were going to be ousted, this job makes it easier to make a change in provost and allow some face saving for all parties.
