1. A tale is spreading that some of the MIDAS money recipients were told at the ceremony recently to expect what was called "MIDAS raises" later this school year. Thanks gorod.
2. Word is that Pood's desire to rise to Provost is quite likely behind his recent "disappearance from the scene." As we reported in a recent mill, he is the leading candidate in the minds of many these days. Thanks artsy.
3. Check out an excerpt from a recent e-mail to the mill from mclubber: "...the problem with a wayward sports program is always huge, and for any school. The situation at Southern is even more puzzling since there is no upside to the "win or else" plan for basketball. That program is never going to bring any serious revenue, and the down side is huge..... bad apples there could take down the whole department....." Thanks for sharing mclubber.
4. artsy reports that a few manuscripts about the USM crisis are in production, some possibly anonymously. Can't wait; they are sure to be local best sellers. Thanks artsy.
5. Word from the dome is that SFT and LSM now refer to HD over in the CBED as their "FIA buddy", in reference to HD's recent actions with the CBED plaintiff. ntsft and grapevine have both reported to the mill recently that SFT & Co are quite pleased with HD's recent "change of heart" regarding freedom requests. Thanks ntsft and grapevine.

If any such manuscript on the USM crisis is well done, and has a good publisher, I believe it might even do well nationally. There is much more data for a book pertaining to the current USM situation than there was for Exit 13. I suspect that the longer this USM crisis lasts, the better the book will sell. That wouldn't be good for USM. But it would be good for the author! I could even see more than one manuscript, each from a different vantage point. One could even turn into a classic text in educational administration (e.g., how not to administer). One could be a takeoff on How To Kill a Mockingbird (e.g., Howto Kill a Golden Eagle), while another could be purely documentary such as was the case with Exit 13. And the movie rights! Oh, I'd love to have the movie rights. It could make a great comedy (picture scenes in the Dome, in Jackson at the IHL office, in the iTech offices, etc.) I'd say that Gary Stringer and Frank Glamser should have the full movie rights. If not, a substantial proportion of the proceeds should go to USM AAUP and to the Stringer/Glamser Scholarship Fund.

Would you, "grapevine", or "ntsft" please elaborate on what dear Harold's "change of heart" is? Do you mean he is now working on it, or stonewalling in the extreme?

Back on the Fire Shelby board, we were casting the movie at one point. I can't remember the specifics, other than LVN had a thing for Pierce Bronsan (spelling?). There were various interesting entries for Shelboo, and several for Angie Dvorak, too.
LOL, well I said that G & S should be played by Randolph Scott and Gary Cooper, but alas they are no longer with us. I recall suggesting Harrison Ford and Sean Connery instead. Maybe? I think I suggested Pierce Brosnan for Judge Cooley? Or the RM?
