Most of us would classify Duke University as "worl' class." With this in mind, take a look at their new recruiting gimmick:

Free iPODs to New Freshmen

Of course, it's for "educational use" ... at least until Fred Freshman runs out of storage & has to decide between the latest Linkin Park tune or some professor yammering about acceleration of gravity.

I do wonder if giving an iPOD to an athlete might violate some obscure NCAA regulation...

if you give all students one, including athletes, i think it's okay with the NCAA.  it's only when athletes get perks that other students don't that you have problems.

I think you're right S-C-M, but there is also some NCAA "wording" that scholarships or "perks" must not exceed certain dollar amounts compared to those other students receive or they have their athletic scholarship reduced. In some cases, scholarships awarded to athletes within departments can make an athlete "give" back some of their (athletic) scholarship $. I personally know of some cases where an athlete was ineligible to receive a department scholarship because he was on "full" scholarship here. I do however agree with your statement, that if the other students are getting an iPod, they should be given that "perk"
