Can anyone confirm or deny the rumor that leave time or sick time will be taken from everyone who does not attend summer commencement? The problem for many, of course, is plans were made prior to the shifting of the date of commencement. Since I assume no one desires to lose 8 hours of leave/sick time, I anxiously await your replies.

Dunno about summer commencement at USM, but I wish my institution gave me the option to take 4 hr of personal leave instead of sitting in a folding chair all that time...

As of an hour ago the word from friends inside the CBED was that no decison had reached the dept. level yet.

Always a joy to learn you give up leave during the summer when you receive none. Never gave anyone an answer when asked why? Summer contract vs. nine-month contract - but punishment for those that did not do what the boss wanted had to be given out.

The joy of being away.

Further rumor says that due to feared poor attendance at summer commencement, the round building will tell all summer research and teaching award winners to attend the celebration this summer.

The final step may be to require the study abroad program attendees to return in time for commencement from now on instead of immediately after commencement.
