that since the board went to registration, there are no more self-congratulatory "good going!" posts that follow every USM Pride update?
Now, we just have to hear about the inherent wurl' class-ness and international reach of said website...at least, what's happening in COB is staying on the COB thread, for now.

Now you did it, Truth. You opened the door and all the CoBers will be debating you on this thread. At least you didn't mention Dr. DeP***'s name. Please be more careful in the future.
You and leftasap invited me to your thread. What's on your mind?

Does anyone else find it funny that some COB posters are misinterpreting a discussion about their delusions of grandeur as an invitation to set up camp on non-COB threads?

Good point. Let's hope that ole Shelboo will do his "next stupid thing" trick really soon and give us something else to talk about. Any nominees?

Truth, have you checked out the thread where Myron reports on the present situation. Seems to me there are some very quiet ongoing "stupid things", like the no shared governance policy and using "third year reviews" as tenure reviews with the outcome being either positive or "one last contract". However, you're correct that these items are too subtle to be noticed by the press as the "next stupid thing".

You are willing to state publicly that Professor DePree is psychotic. Are you ready to do it without the mask?

Que pasa? I wear no mask and made no such statement.

Puh-leaze.
I'm afraid I misunderstood your post. When you mentioned "their delusions of grandeur" I thought you were referring to Dr. DePree.
The silly reference on my part to your "mask" referred both to your avatar and your anonymity.
"Truth" has revealed her true identity on this board numerous times.* Also, the phrase "delusions of grandeur" is just a figure of speech and not a clinical diagnosis. It's about like saying "my [insert relative of choice] is completely crazy."
*Hint: she works for the Chancellor of a Tier 1 university and is a PhD candidate at USM.

Actually, I work directly for the Faculty Senate at a Tier 1 University...I'm their Program Coordinator. And the Faculty Senate even has a real budget and everything here! Hard to imagine, I know, but that's how things are done when a Chancellor/President really believes in shared governance--they put their money where their mouth is.
And, Professor Horner, I don't think I've ever been "masked" on this board...the "AH" in my board nom stands for my initials and my personal info has been reported here numerous times.
(And most importantly, thanks for having my back, LVN...you are the best!)

You piqued my interest and I've done a little research. "Delusions of grandeur" is a well-defined term in psychiatry. You are correct in saying that it is not a clinical diagnosis, but it is a symptom whose presence is of diagnostic value.
Truth may have been using the phrase as a figure of speech, but don't you think I can be forgiven by taking her statement at face value?
And by the way, I am the greatest mathematician who has ever lived.
Delusions are EXTREME alterations in thought content or one's belief system that can not be explained by cultural mores and are not based on reality (e.g., saying we are a "World Class" university is not delusional, just poor taste; believing that SFT is listening in on your conversations by secretly coating your brain with a new form of American Pride paint with embedded nano-transmission towers is delusional). Delusions are often present in psychotic disorders and mood disorders (delusions of granduer would not be unusual during a manic episode), though they are not a required feature for most of these diagnoses.
There are many words and phrases from psychology that have made their way into the common language. Some examples-delusions of grandeur, ego, sub-conscious, Oedipal complex, positive reinforcement, defense mechanism, penis-envy, conditioned response, self-actualization, projection, denial, Skinner box, Pavlov's dogs (love the Stones). In most cases these are used differently than originally intended, so AH is forgiven.

Bill you need to remember that those with a "Liberal Arts" background don't seem to use precise language that you are used to in Math/science. That way when you catch them in error they can always say they were "speaking figuratively" or "metaphorically speaking", etc. etc.
A note to Andrea Hewitt: You and I have never met. The following message from a highly respected non-CoB faculty raises a question many wonder about. Without your trademark allusions, like delusions of grandeur, be truthful. Here's how the highly respected non-CoB professor put it: "There many of us non-COB people who find what you are doing to be positively amazing. I don't understand Andrea's position with you at all. We think you are at the heart of USM's tawdry exposure. Keep it coming."
Let's parse this, shall we?
A note to Andrea Hewitt: You and I have never met.
Yes, we have, actually. Many moons ago when I still worked at USM. The following message from a highly respected non-CoB faculty raises a question many wonder about.
The question being....my position with regards to you? (this is my assumption, since you are not clear here). I have stated my position with regards to you on this board many times. I don't like the way you have attempted to hijack this board, nor do I like the way that you have insulted all of us by stating that our efforts were futile in helping Frank and Gary. A little board history lesson would go a long way with you.
Without your trademark allusions, like delusions of grandeur, be truthful.
I have been nothing but truthful with you...what are you referring to here?
Here's how the highly respected non-CoB professor put it: "There many of us non-COB people who find what you are doing to be positively amazing. I don't understand Andrea's position with you at all. We think you are at the heart of USM's tawdry exposure. Keep it coming."
I love how you invoke a "highly respected non-COB professor" without naming her/him. As far as we know, you made all of this up to lend credence to your own position (the wording of this supposed email is eerily familiar, I must point out).
You are not fooling anyone, Andrea.
And who do you think I'm trying to fool? Longtime board posters? They know me (many in real life). You? Hardly. And what exactly am I doing to attempt to "fool" someone? I think you like to "manufacture" boogeymen, and simply because I stated publicly what so many others think (I won't post all of the emails/private msgs about you that I've received because, frankly, your actions speak louder than anyone else's words), you've "targeted" me. Enjoy your "virtual" fun while you can...I'm about through with being your manufactured boogeyman.
These posts are causing me to consume far too much champagne. One suggests that a lost cause be recognized and that you go forward with more interesting topics.
How are your wedding plans coming along? I was asked to organize the wedding of my dear cousine but alas, lilies make me quite faint and nothing but lilies would do. Had it been masses of peach Osiana roses, as I suggested, how much more beautiful!
You are absolutely right, as usual. I have much better things to do with my time, such as pack for my move into my new house, plan a wedding (still working on the details), and get ready for the upcoming semester. I simply get frustrated with those who have no sense of history, and no manners. What is the phrase? "Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it." I'm sure Googler or another board friend will be correcting my memory here shortly.
Anyway, it is Friday and the end of the week, thank goodness! TGIF, or the French equivalent (whatever that may be).
It is always Friday at chez de Guerre, except on Sunday. Let me warn you about peach Osianas, however. They open quickly and do not last well. But so, so chic. Possibly not with the red hair, non; we shall have to think more.
It appears that someone has sobered up the fictitious French lady long enough to post some more inane blather. Now that she is coherent, perhaps she can comment on current events. What is the French view on how Israel is systematically dismantling the Islamic terrorists? We will know she truly is French if she suggests that Israel surrender.
A great sentiment! However, Cossack's post above assures us that, indeed, we will probably never all get along on this board. Sigh. At least, it's a virtual world here!
those with a "Liberal Arts" background don't seem to use precise language that you are used to in Math/science.
I'm not sure about this. For example, is there anything in the 374 psychiatric disorders described in DSM-IV that is nearly as evocative as "looney freakin' tunes"?
I am not quite sure what this poster is asking?. If the questioner is asking, can we agree to disagree without violence, the answer is yes. If the questioner is asking, can we all agree with one view of the world, the answer is no.
