I was hoping someone else had heard from the meeting. Apparently, not or no one wants to comment on what may have happened.
This is what I have heard - could be true or not:
#1 - Joe Morgan presented the IHL Board and committee with a packet of information concerning the outsourcing of Physical Plant to Aramark.
#2 - Morgan was told that no action would be taken until a complete contract from Aramark was provided. At that time, the matter would be taken into consideration for a future Board meeting.
#3 - The Board expressed its displeasure with the outsourcing of the U of M Physical Plant a couple of years ago.
Again, this is what I have heard. I find it strange that nothing has been reported by the Hattiesburg American regarding this issue.
I am waiting to move my office (some administrator's brilliant idea), but the log jam is PP work(paint, install phone lines, some electrical work) in other offices downstream.
I was told, and it would be nice to get someone to confirm this, that the Dome did not bother putting together a budget for PP because they fully expected Aramark to be calling the shots by now. So, any moving, painting, and so on, must be outsourced locally until there is some resolution of this mess, at a much higher cost than PP has been in the past (and with a longer time for project completion). I was also told that PP is shorthanded due to people bailing out, and craft and trade people not beating down the gates for jobs at USM.
i can't speak about the PP issue, but i also know some work has been contracted out to local people. but, as a historical note, this has been done before. when the interior of building i was in was repainted about 10 years ago, it was contracted out to local painters. the PP didn't do it.
i have also heard that local business people are very much against outsourcing the PP. they figure that if aramark gets the contract, it has its own vendors and suppliers and won't buy locally.
