Just for the record, I am using my fathers computer from H'burg today. My computer is (I hope) in storage in Richmond. My wife and I will be leaving in the morning heading north.
I've not posted since we packed, but I have seen my name several times, I am happy you all still care. But, I do want to say a few things.
I am not posting as N2ME, he dosn't spell nearly as many words wrong as I do. I don't know if he posted as Andrea or not, but as you all should know, that's not something I would do.
I do think that it's sad that you guys set upon him thinking that he was me simply because you found someone else who dosn't share all your views. A bit of kindness and understanding goes a long ways. But, as long as you guys allow Andrea to dominate this message board, you will alienate everyone that comes here that is't in lock-step agreement.
I will be around a few minutes this afternoon, but after that it will be probably be next Monday or so before I will have access again.
Seeker, I never thought I'd miss your spelling-mistake ridden posts so much. I'm flattered that you think I wield so much power on this message board. What interests me is why you (and now N2ME) keep coming back for more if this board is so awful. Must be our witty conversation that keeps you coming back again and again and again...
Have a safe trip. I lived in the Richmond VA area at one point in my life and really enjoyed it.
You say Andrea "dominates" the Board, but I'd like to lessen that word a bit and say that she contributes a lot to the Board - and that is anyone's right to do so. There is no limitation to how many posts we make; thus, some of our voices are heard more than others (yours and mine included!!!). If the Varsity Voice gets up and running, I'm sure that if we choose that as another forum for discussion, we will appear as the "Away Team" too. We're all watching the events connected to USM from different vantage points, so disagreement is inevitable.
The USM Chapter of the AAUP is not pleased with SFT & Co. for all the obvious reasons. This is their website - of course the Message Board is biased against the Usual Suspects.
Hope to see you back online and on the Board in the near future.

Andrea
I have never said this board is awful. I think that it could be much more useful if you (personnelly) didn't jump all over anyone who isn't lock-step in line with the Fire Thames Mantra. This board is very beneficial for a large number of people, but a certian clique scares off a large number of posters who could be very productive members of this board community.
Take N2ME for example, he has pointed out to you guys some of the same things that I said in regards to how the "man on the street" regards the faculty at this time. But, instead of saying to yourselfs, how can we get our positon across more clearly, you call the man on the street stupid and shoot the guy who brought the message.
Don't you realize that had the situation been handled better, that you would have already had what you wanted - Thames gone.
Seeker will give you one last piece of ammo before I leave MS. Thames and Bower are about to blow up, follow Eagle Talk if you don't believe me. It's about to get nasty, use it to your advantage if you can get your leadership to listen.
I for one am a Jeff Bower fan. The tension between those 2 men is sad to see, but you and I both agree that SFT's goals are far more self centered than the average bear. I agree with you, things are about to ex (or im)plode.

Setting the record straight...N2ME attacked a fellow board member personally and also impersonated me last night. That doesn't tend to make a good first impression, now does it?

Andrea
Two points -
Your defination of "attack" is so loose it's laughable. You've accused me of "attacks" that were so loose it was laughable.
Second point, I don't know if he impersonated you are not, but doing that is a pretty cowardly thing to do. So I give you a 50% grade on that one.

The attack was taken down by the webmaster (I did see it before it was gone). I won't repeat what was said, but suffice it to say, it was a definite personal attack. As I'm assuming you didn't see it, you have no basis for your comment.
As for your attack on me on the old FS board (not meaning to open up old wounds, but you asked for it....), it was an oafish bit of predictable misogynistic BS, and you know it. I know an attack when I see one.

Because this is where the bad faculty are. It is here that I have to try to show them how they are hurting USM. I have to show them--and you--that you are putting yourselves before the university with your shallow smears in the local papers. I really regret I told you about the Sun Herald. Now you are spilling your petulant comments over to there and making USM look even worse. At least here, I had you contained. This will be my last post to you, at least to your Truth4USM name. I know now what kind of person you are. This does not mean I have a closed mind, it just means I have lost all hope on you. From now on when I see your name, even in threads, I will just pass by it unread.

Will you also promise not to steal my board name anymore?

Hey everyone I learned a new word today. Had to get out the old Merriam-Webster to even see what Andrea was calling me.
I did apologize for that, I shouldn't have said it in the way that I did, for it was not mean to be nearly as harsh as it came out. At any rate I should not have responded in that manner. You know how to mannage your time, I won't make the mistake of making a suggestion on that point again.
I am sure someone, somewhere would take that post above as an attack. I don't, but then again, I don't think I am more important than I am, either.

As George W. likes to say: "Mission Accomplished!"
"I don't think I am more important than I am, either."
No, Seeker, this is where you are wrong. People like you and N2ME come to this board to antagonize and preach with no helpful (or even thoughtful) discussion. You worry about the "common man" and public perception, but you fail to realize this - without the faculty, there is no USM. You and N2ME have no idea how much the faculty at USM suffers and what is is like to work under Shelby's rule. You come to this board with your self-righteous, arrogant posts and taunt those who are trying to make their work environment (and, indirectly, the learning environment of the students) better. Please realize this - when you two come to this board and speak of the "bad" faculty, you DO NOTHING to help the ultimate cause of making USM better. YOU OFFER NOTHING but insults and taunts, and are thus met with substantial resistance when you post. And that bum N2ME posted as a faux Andrea Hewitt, which is as cowardly and pathetic as it gets. Please understand my words before either of you preach to the faculty any more.
BTW - I am neither on the USM faculty or an alumnus - take that for what you will....
i hate to see an argument expressed by the "without the __________, USM won't exist" framework. it ends up pitting various important groups against each other. without the faculty, USM won't exist. without the staff, USM won't exist. and so forth. all groups are important to this university (and any university). we do need the "common person's" support because they are taxpayers and universities (here and elsewhere) need all the financial help they can garner. public education, in general, and public higher education, in particular, need all the support they can get.

I am in strong agreement with you Stinky. Unfortunately, I'm afraid my post about better PR triggered much of the troll-driven maelstrom - that was certainly not my intent.
