The Times-Picayune and Chronicle of Higher Education are both reporting very steep drops in enrollment at Tulane and Loyola. Loyola plans to lay off tenured/tenure track faculty. Does anyone have a connection down in the Crescent City who can speak to what's going on? Things look grim.
This is from today's (Saturday) Times-Picayune. The headline is about the Director of Admissions leaving.
"As of last week, Tulane had received commitments from 948 incoming freshmen for the fall semester, a figure that is about 43 percent below the 2005 freshman class of 1,683."
