The article says that Scott Carr has been promoted to Deputy Director, which is the title held formerly by David Hansen. The primary difference is Carr will continue to oversee external affairs, as he did prior to the promotion.
Hansen was responsible for internal affairs, including serving as the CFO for Athletics. Someone from Louisiana-Monroe has been hired to oversee internal affairs.
My guess is a good portion of Hansen's salary is going to the new hire for internal affairs, and of all the "promotions," Carr probably got the biggest salary bump.
