Since the COB contingent have ignored my request to let us continue the conversation about Glamser's decision to hand over the packet, maybe they will be satisfied to let the rest of us go away and leave them to their discussion.
I believe the question was, what would have happened had Dr. Glamser made a different choice?
Wouldn't that depend on how far the AAUP would have been willing to push the situation? Would anyone have listened to the AAUP at the IHL or in the media?

I think G&S did exactly the right thing. They put the ball in Thames' court, where the responsibility resided, after all, he did the hiring without a search committee. Thames should have convened a committee to investigate the credentials. It would have resulted in a change in the resume and nothing else would have happened. Thames administrative incompetence and ego caused the whole mess.
The sad thing is that Dr. Godwin (formerly Dvorak) could have said, "oops! that was a mistake, here, let me fix that! [erase, erase, correct] There! all better!"
One wonders who would still be at USM besides Gary & Frank? What about Tim Hudson?
Frank ran up the chain of command because it was the right thing to do. Thames has this uncanny way of simply ignoring what he wants to ignore but then turns his attack on the messenger. What a piece of work. Frank and Gary have hung on to their good names. Can you imagine that Thames at one point in March 2003 intimated that they were criminals?? FireShelby was born (as was Truth's website), and we became a true community. Isolationist tactics backfired BIGtime!!!
As noted earlier, honorable people such as Frank Glamser and Gary Stringer are always at a disadvantage in dealing will a dishonorable person such as SFT. They did what was correct and proper. Neither they nor most of us could imagine the sorry group of people who sit on the Board until this happened.

LVN, you got me thinking would I still be at USM? It's hard to remember what it was like before the G&S fiasco. Of course, the deans had all been fired the year before and Handberry was attending Faculty Senate meetings to report to Thames. Seems like the Senate asked for a mediator/facilitator to improve communication with SFT to no avail. No, it wasn't a healthy place and others like me took the opportunity to search for other positions or retire. But after the Frank and Gary affair the leaving became a stampede.

This post was by Emma. Trying to delete a few icons changed name. Part of what we're dealing with post-hack. Sorry Emma. Mod.
No problem, Mod. My problems with this university started way before the Glamser and Stringer debacle. I won't go away for a long time to come. Thanks for smoothing everything over.
I appreciate my board friends. LVN, you and I are going to have TOO much fun in the near future - love you and take care. Vic, You're included. Stephen Judd - my crush on you hasn't gone away either.
While I enjoy the asides between posters on the Board, I find it ironic that immediately after complaining about the topic being hijacked on a previous thread we have posts by those who complained that are not about the topic. Alas, human beings are such complicated creatures resulting in nothing be simple nor always as it seems. More than anyone, I hate to abide by my own rules, it is so restrictive.

It's O.K. to get off topic just as long as it doesn't turn into another CoB thread. I can't count the number of those threads just on page 1 of this board. Oops, I wrote those hated letters. Maybe the Moderator can delete this post.
Cossack, of course you make a valid point. I would just say there's a difference between threads drifting off topic, as they are wont to do, and threads being hijacked. I don't wish to provoke our COB friends this morning, but we do get a rather heavy dose of COB issues in comparison to those of the other colleges. Most of us don't even know what they're talking about most of the time. Yet one is not to question!
I found it exceptionally irritating last night and made a request that the thread return to its original topic. The next COB poster responded by essentially thumbing his nose at me, at which point I started a new thread rather than argue. I apologize for my irritation.

Did it ever occur to you that I might have been working on my post when your request went up?
A. Godwin (Formerly Dvorak) knew just what she was doing and had the backing of incompetance to support her. Check around and you will find more and more!
