From the university budget, I think. Under normal circumstances the VP for Research and the head of the Research Foundation have been the same person. Someone correct me if I am mistaken, but I don't believe the Research Foundation "head" has been titled the "President" until now. This would be consistent with AGD's previous private sector positions, as "President" and "CEO" of the Mississippi Technology Alliance and the Institute for Technology Development.

Not to be forgotten is the role of Noetic, the "commercialization and marketing arm" of the Research Foundation. That organization has its own President and CEO.
