1. Stories are coming out that hiring replacements has become so difficult in the CBED that all of the doctoral students in an entire department at a nearby university were offered a job in the CBED before one was found who would come.
2. A recent package from envelope indicates that the passports of a few CBED faculty are " heavily stamped." From what we see, the "business travel" destinations would make Paris Hilton envious.
3. There is some speculation now that the CBED simply won't have enough faculty on board (from a sheer numbers perspective) to get high enough marks by the time its accrediting agency hits town. Word on the street is that next year's departure list could be as long or longer than in recent years.
4. We continue to get reports about impending legal actions involving CBED administrator(s). These have typically revolved around the merit raise and annual review issues.
Your rumor with respect to travel is probably the result of ED faculty being "taken care of" by TH. My guess is that a sizable chunk of the grant release salary that has been generated by grants goes into TH and AD's offices and "disappears". KM and the ED crew then use the money to do "Economic Development" all over the world.
Meanwhile, if I'm not mistaken, BizEagle can't get a trip to Magee....
Count, you must have missed the one about the CBED faculty who's been to Jamaica over 60 times in the past few years, and he's not in the ED department.

60 times? Why? Conferences? Research? Secret Service Activity? WHY??

And there were a bunch of trips to England, Japan and other locations. These weren't taken by Economic Development people either. As has been said on this board many times, at CBED what you get depends on who likes or dislikes you.

Anyone who makes sixty trips to Jamaica, writes articles with the Provost, probable deserves a midyear raise. A review of the Provost's vita suggests that several CBED faculty outside of ED have been doing research with the Provost over the years. One idividual has 7 journal publications and five paper presentations with the Provost. Another faculty member has 3 journals and 5 meeting paper with with the Provost. Is there any correlation with travel and co-authoring with the Provost? At CBED it may not depend on who likes or dislikes you but what you have done for the person in power.
The most recent controversy at CBED revolves around a non-hire. A well-qualified female candidate for an administrative position was nixed by the president. JG/KM paired up to convince ST to override the decision of the search committee, department faculty, chair, and dean to hire this person. Word is that TH had been busy for weeks behind the scenes convincing JG and KM that the person was "not qualified" and "wouldn't fit in". When the decision was made, however, TH was "vacationing in Texas"!

If the "wouldn't fit in" phraseology was truly used, it may have some very interesting EEOC implications in the event that the candidate chooses to pursue this further.
