How do the threads on this board work?

I have noticed that some of the thread seem out of place...For example, Rumour #25 may be 8 or 9 threads below Rumour #24...Other posts seem to appear in different places at different times...Is this actually happening or have I had one too many beers?

when a thread updates it moves up the line...
