1. Stories are circulating that the so-called "merit" raises (funded by the 6% increase in tuition) may be rushed into this fall's salaries, rather than waiting until the "mid-year" point, as has become USM's custom under Thames.  With this, then, there is speculation on both counts (i.e., a September raise or a January raise).  Thanks gorod.

2. Word from COAL is that more faculty losses are expected, and some may be big.  Speculation on this board had Noel Polk to MSU, now rumors are circulating that he may be headed to Ole Miss.  MSU is rumored to be in "discussions" with two CBED faculty members, and that Ole Miss is "talking to" someone in the CEP.  Thanks artsy, envelope, compaq and grapevine.

3. ntsft reports that the "no contract sent to person x" ploy (to rid SFT of certain people) may be in the works, in a very selective manner.  This was reported earlier on the FS board.  Hopefully we can gather more on this in the upcoming days.

4. More word from ntsft is that there is a sense of paralysis inside the dome since the losses of MD and JH, along with the crippling of AD and the ostracized TH.

Watch out for #3--where they just "forget" to send you your contract. I believe that this was the ploy used in Dana Thames's dept. to get rid of Melissa Whiting and Margaret Mary Sulentic (though the latter prof. up and got herself another job--go girl!)

So, when contracts start arriving, POST IT HERE. That way the folks in danger can get their lawyers lined up.

Absolutely.

If "forgot to send the contract" means guaranteed lawsuits and instant media coverage, Thames will sorely regret using that ploy again.

That reminds me-- I never got a contract for this summer. Did anyone else?

If at USM, I never receive contracts for the summer. Funny how it all works on TRUST in the summer and the rest of the year no one can be trusted.

Hello, Tinctoris.  First, let me say I enjoy your postings very much.  Now... In the summer there are no contracts issued. The depts/Colleges send a PAF form to Human Resources stating your salary for summer, and how many hours you will teach. You can request a copy from your dept or college.

Hmmm... Merit raises on the first budget revision. Not smart. Folks at USM need to start asking their community college brethren & cistern about pay raises. Gulf Coast is going about 4-5% across the board this year off a $100/semester tuition hike. (Of course, that's tantamount to a 20% tuition increase, but that's the difference in scale.)

Other CC's are raising pay (faculty, admin, staff) in about 2 weeks, too.

Just read on another post that Melissa Whiting has accepted a job at the Univ. of Arkansas.  After she wins the lawsuit - perhaps she'll be the one with the vacation home in the Ozarks!

Speaking of who will get merit raises, I wonder what Crockett and company will get for cooking the deal to clean up the Dvorak mess?

We have a bunch of disgrunted, failed administrators like Henry and Crockett cooking a deal on Dvorak that makes no sense and can only favor the administation and everyone seems to think it's just fine. What am I missing?

Too much spin here. You have my head spinning with so much invention and distortion. Henry was a "fired" adnministrator. You would have to see an evaluation of his performance to use the word "failed". SPIN SPIN SPIN Truth means nothing to you. You must be in politics.

"Crockett cooking up a deal" ???? SPIN SPIN SPIN
Around we go.

Drs Crockett, Smith, Susan Malone (who left USM) and others were members of a committee to review hiring, credentials etc. Their report(and those of many other committees) were presented at the last meeting of FS , which lasted over 3 hours.
They presented a resolution that was debated and passed by the whole senate. Everyone was in favor except a few senators who wanted to "water the resolution down". Crockett and Smith rebutted them and the stronger resolution passed.

Your words "...Crockett cooking a deal on Dvorak.." shows your opinion, but sure has no relation, that I can see, with reality. Supply evidence, facts or reasons for your statements.

I'll offer that SFT doesn't give a rodent's posterior about lawsuits. They take years to navigate through the courts -- even Whiting's suit took 2 years & it was "fast tracked". By the time any suits came up, SFT would be long gone, retired.

Lawsuits end up being a game of fiscal attrition & the party with the deeper pockets usually has a distinct advantage, right or wrong.

Remember, too, that SFT has a weird view of what is right & legal. It took Judge Anderson to make him realize that he really needed to "settle out" with Drs. G&S.
