Is this guy cutting off his nose to spite his face? This year's commencement speaker at PRCC was George Bush. Dick Cheney is speaking somewhere but I can't recall where. I don't particularly care for either of those, but resigning would be furthest from my mind. Is this guy insist that commencent speakers be limited only to those with whom he agrees?
Correction . . . . Bush was the commncement speaker at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Cheney is this year's commencement speaker at LSU. It's unlikely anybody resigned over that.
With any luck, Rice will go on a cross-country tour, speaking at as many campuses as possible, so that nuts similar to this guy can be induced to resign their academic posts and get back to their heavy-metal bands. Good riddance!
We had Laura Bush at Vanderbilt yesterday...I'm sure this is all part of a big PR campaign to boost the Prez's bad poll numbers. I doubt it will work, but, hey, you can't blame them for trying!
Okay, I just read the info at the link...the guy was an ADJUNCT professor at BC! A little bit less at stake for him with his resignation, dontcha think?

I do not understand why he would be troubled with Condi Rice speaking at commencement. She is the epitome of the American dream. Maybe it is because he does not like African Americans as commencement speakers.
Gimme a break, Cossack. Did you even read the article? Stop playing the "race card," already--it's lame and way beneath you, rhetorically speaking.
FYI, I think the professor went a bit overboard, personally, but more power to him if that's what he wants to do (i.e. give up a crappy adjunct job to make a political "statement.").

I guess my attempt at subtle humor was taken seriously. Of course he made a political statement. But, since the race card is dealt so often when conservatives are against an issue, I have fallen into the same mind set. Actually, I see this episode as a healthy development because politics trumps race as an issue. That is how it should be. Since we both are frequent posters on this site, we will work together to make sure that we ferret out those who do play the race card on either side of the political fence.

Mr. Bush delivered an address at MGCCC that was entirely focussed on Hurricane Katrina & the persistence of the graduating class. The only mention of Iraq, for example, was when he recognized a mother & son who were graduating together who had lost a son (and brother) in the "War on Terror." It was a treat for most of the graduates & a big shot in the arm for faculty & staff who had quite a difficult year.
Notably absent from the festivities were representatives from USM. Maybe they were protesting
