DuBard School gets $1.25 million donation

Representatives of the Kelly Gene Cook Foundation today announced a $1.25 million donation to the University of Southern Mississippi’s DuBard School.

The DuBard School teaches communication to children with language disabilities.

This brings the Cook Foundation’s total donations to USM to $4 million, said President Emeritus Aubrey Lucas, who called the Cook Foundation the DuBard School’s fairy godparents.

DuBard Director Maureen Martin said the donation would enable the school to serve more children, and fund training for teachers and professionals in the field.

Has anyone noticed that President Lucus has been extremely visible lately and that Shelby has been unusually absent from the public eye?

This is a MAJOR/MAJOR gift...You would think the PR people at USM would have made sure Thames' quotes on the gift appeared in print...Assuming that he made a statement...Kelly Gene Cook Found. has been a great friend to USM...The DuBard School certainly needs the support as well...In the full article in today's paper, there is not one word from Thames or Foundation...Very Strange...Surely they were in on this gift?

Shelby is miffed because the 1.25M requires a USM match. He was livid when he learned that he's obligated to come up with the cash. Who wants an apoplectic president at a news conference?

Think the upper respiratory illness that is keeping Shelby from graduation ceremonies in Hattiesburg today and the Gulf Coast tomorrow was also responsible for his absence from this major development event?
