"Joe Paul, USM vice president for student affairs, said that the number of freshman and transfer student applications and acceptances are higher this year than in years past.
"Freshman applications are up 4 percent and acceptances are up almost 9 percent over this date last year," he said. "Applications for transfer students are up 11 percent and acceptances are up 4 percent."
USM had 2,354 freshmen enrolled in fall 2003. Final enrollment figures for fall 2004 won't be known until after classes start, Paul said."
Does this jive with the figures that others are seeing?
Those figures say nothing about enrollment numbers though. Acceptances (loosened standards?) and applications mean little until people pay their tuition bill and come to campus.
