Good gawd, man! The more difficult question might be, Why wouldn't she?
The Coast faculty are squeezed into a tiny, airless, converted hospital that they share with a hospice for terminal patients. There's no office space and no phones and poorly maintained printers and copiers. Coast annual reviews come back with "2" for service, and deans who never visit nonetheless badger junior faculty who don't even have frigging houses about grant production. The student body is out of its mind with stress, frustration and grief, the staff on the brink of quitting, mass murder or suicide, depending on who you ask. This last is particularly troubling because Jeannette was one of three in-house psychotherapists dragooned into service to counsel Coast personnel; despite the ethical problems this raised, she was doing a pretty brisk business. Gawd knows what'll happen after she's gone
There's a story circulating that El Pood went to SFT with like $50K worth of college development money and wanted to use it to rent office space for college faculty. SFT judiciously said no and then emptied out the development account.
The reasons for quitting are legion. No worry though; the adminstration's plan for the Coast all along has been to drive all resident faculty away and replace them with adjuncts and USM grads. It's going swimmingly.
For the record, Buddy Mayo has accepted a position as associate professor in the Department of Communication at Kennesaw State University near Atlanta.

One source for this story: I heard it told, in an open meeting of the CoAL faculty, by the dean's man on the coast, Tom Lansford. As I remember, the CoAL Coast secretary compiled minutes of the meeting and then circulated them among the resident faculty. I'll look through old e-mails and see if I still have it.
I'm really disgusted by the selfish attitude of the coast faculty, wanting offices to work in when the funds are needed for Dana's raise. You should be ashamed of yourselves.
I heard Joe Hutchinson is leaving. Can anyone on the Coast confirm?
Indeed, Joe Hutchinson told me today that he is leaving, for the University of Central Florida-Daytona Beach.
He also had an interesting story about the CoB: SFT has apprently decided that there will be no Hospitality Management or Casino Managment classes taught on the Coast next year. Joe was told that he would teach his classes in H'burg next year if he stayed and advised to move to H'burg for the near future.

Will, everything you heard from Joe is true. Even students are commenting that they are getting this news straight from Becker (the chair). No Tourism Management on the Coast.
I understand that Barbara Thrash from the Graduate Office has retired. She's was always both genial and professional whenever I called or visited over there, and I wish her the best. JL

He has taken several trips "out of town" this semester, including a very recent one. He seems to be looking for a job, but he also seems to be in favor with Doty, which means he's got some reward coming.

Well, I guess that SFT's sees no need for Hospitality courses on the coast now that Tulane is offering them.
