DILMORE JOINS SOUTHERN MISS PUBLIC RELATIONS STAFF
HATTIESBURG - John Dilmore has joined The University of Southern Mississippi's Department of Marketing and Public Relations team as an assistant director for news and marketing.
Dilmore assumed his new position May 1. He will be in charge of news coverage for a large cross section of academic and staff areas at the university, including the colleges of Business and Economic Development and Health and Human Sciences.
Dilmore has spent the past two years as editor and publisher of the Scott County Times in Forest. Prior to that he was editor and publisher of the Lamar County News, the Petal News and the Hattiesburg Advertiser News. Dilmore holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from Southern Miss.
"John's experience as an editor and newspaper publisher gives him an insight into the kinds of stories that can benefit the university most," said Lisa S. Mader, director of Marketing and Public Relations. "He's a gifted and accomplished writer as well, and we're thrilled to have someone of his caliber here at Southern Miss."
Other editorial experience includes three years as a reporter and assistant editor for The Northside Sun in Jackson, and work as news editor of the Student Printz while in college.
Publications Dilmore has overseen have received numerous awards from the Mississippi Press Association (MPA) for content, layout and design, including the MPA's General Excellence Award.
A second generation Southern Miss graduate, Dilmore is a lifelong and enthusiastic supporter of Golden Eagle athletics.

Googler, you are correct: that news release is dated 2003. Pardon my carelessness. Boy, I'll bet that guy Dilmore is happy to be out of there!
