I'm about to bust an aneurysm. Why in the hell was a patently incompetent "Risk Manager" drafting an athletic department employment contract? Did he also rewrite employment contracts for the faculty? I suppose that'll be revealed when contracts are mailed out this summer. Like many faculty members, Bower has received unsolicited employment offers from several major universities in the past five years, all of which would have represented an upward career move for him. The sublime irony is that he stayed....OUT OF LOYALTY. I wouldn't be one bit surprised to see Jeff pack his bags and join the growing USM exodus from Hattiesburg. He could convoy with Noel Polk and the many others on the published departure list. I need a drink.
From the CL article: "Hanbury resigned his position recently after the publication of an e-mail that chastised some USM administrators for objection to university policy."
FOR OBJECTION TO UNIVERSITY POLICY? WTF???? This is the biggest crock of s**t I've read this week, and that's saying something. Did this sanitized characterization of Hanbury's e-mail come from Ms. Mader? If anyone knows Tim Doherty, I'd strongly urge that he be promptly disabused of this notion, and asked to print a correction--tomorrow. Grumble grumble......
Please pardon my rant. Under ordinary circumstances, I am capable of civil discourse.

I would be less surprised if Jeff just packed his bags back over to Petal & concentrated on his golf game. But I would be surprised if he "donated" any of his time to raising money for USM if he did.

That's what she told us.
I agree, The Bower family is not looking to leave Hattiesburg UNLESS forced to by SFT."
Hold on. Shelby can force somebody to leave the University, but unless his authority as president is a lot broader than previously supposed, he cannot force anybody to leave town.
With all due respect to the many faculty that SFT has run off, if he were to go after Jeff Bower, he would come as close as he ever has to alienating the community. We would also have irrefutable proof that SFT is either senile or insane. Or both.

I thought that's what you meant. But do you think he would? Or would he just go "private sector" or concentrate on his golf game? It's not like his wife isn't an extremely successful businesswoman in her own right.

Invictus, I feel that IF the right job came along and he could get a 5 year contract out of it he would seriously consider it. Also there are other factors to consider, but depending on this next season if USM can have a another conference championship, and a bowl win,he will be highly marketable for another coaching position.

Austin Eagle,
That was a pretty serious misrepresentation of Hanbury's memo. You wouldn't find the Hat Am writing such crap...
A letter to the Clarion-Ledger is certainly indicated.
Robert Campbell
PS. What does Hanbury know about coaches' contracts?
