MSU has the most engineers, and they are paid considerably more than scientists, who in turn are paid more that those in the Arts. It's market driven..

Makes sense....but I wonder about USM's business faculty. Aren't they typically paid more than the scientists? That's what I've always heard, at least. Maybe there are less of them (esp. with the mass exodus shown on babbs' list) than there are engineers at State.
Forgive my verbosity today, but in fact, the some business professors do earn a lot of money compared to science.
The reason I know this is that Shelby use to love to state in his group meetings that he did not draw a salary from the university. After about the 20th time of hearing this, I went to the library and got the university budget. Whether he drew it or not, USM budgeted Shelby $108K that year. Sounded like a salary to me, and I doubt he turned it down.

And I've always heard that the USM Foundation supplements his salary with additional $$ bringing the total salary to somewhere close to $250K. Can anyone else confirm this?
Also, he's living in a house paid for with tax-payer dollars. Don't see him turning that perk down, do we?
If you consult the MSU website, you will find that they also have a business school. This is also true for UM and USM. Your argument should be that in addition to having more engineers, there are also more business faculty, which is probably true.
