1. Word coming around that SFT has been sending the IHL all sorts of goofy statistics to show that faculty morale at USM is not that low.  In addition to grants & contracts data, he has apparently sent data on number of faculty taking (free) courses over the past few semesters, and faculty use of the Payne Center, among other things.  As many of you suspected, he had also planned to send along faculty season ticket purchases, but those look to be way down over past years.  Thanks alpha.

2. From what I hear, talk on this board actually quelled the plan to move AD to the ADP.  Thanks mole.

3. Stories are circulating indicating that at private parties and gatherings SFT often boasts about how he is going to "crush" Bobby Chain if he continues to get in the way of things at USM.  Thanks for this nice one gorod.

4. Spoke with envelope by phone just now.  Tells me that things are heating up over at CBED, and that several "actions" are pending re annual evaluation reviews over there.  Apparently, Doty's first crack at annuals there was a disaster in many quarters.  HD's support is apparently down to a handful of faculty (not incl chairs), and the situtation is a powder keg.  gorod relays that problems stem from HD's earliest decisions and actions last summer.  Thanks envelope and gorod.

5. Stories are circulating that an administrator in the COAL was recently "censured."  All I have on this.  Thanks cryptic.

Setting aside for the moment the question of who in their right mind would invite SFT to a private party & assuming this rumor to have a shred of truth, we might take this as more proof that SFT is seriously delusional.

I wonder what SFT says about Gene Saucier...

How would you "crush" a person of Mr. Chain's age and means.  He's retired, so there's nothing to do to him career-wise, he's well-connected and/or related to people, so actually, what would "crush" him?  Or Saucier either, for that matter.

I would still like to know a little bit more about this Daily Rumour Mill business.  It's possibly legit, but guru never answered the question about how this stuff gets to him/her.  Unless g. is a media person?  Until then, I will take it all with a BIG tablespoon of salt.  .

Speaking of rumors, what's happened to the cryptic poster called "Chess" from the old Fire Shelby board? He/she accurately predicted the Hanbury and M. Dvorak departures, and hinted that A. Dvorak and others would follow in a particular order. Maybe Chess is now under deep cover and posting as gurunuberg? Or maybe I just watched too many old James Bond flicks this weekend?

I know what they say about draining swamps while watching for alligators, but was the original objective to KEEP Mrs. Dr. Dvorak, J.D., at USM?

I too have a "problem" accepting this information without verification. Can someone vouch for gurunuburg and the information being posted? If gurunuburg is a true source of info, I welcome him/her. Also, how can we pass info to him/her?

I can tell you that much, if not most, of the "information" posted as part of these threads is simply not true.  What was once a useful source of information and insight has lost almost all credibility.  The origininal FS website was often positive, and seen by many as the most accurate source of information about the events at USM.  While rumors were sometimes posted on FS, the rumors were more often right than wrong.

It appears that a very small group of individuals is using the AAUP website to spread falsehoods and pursue personal agendas.  I do not know the motive, but it appears to have little to do with making USM a better university and much to do with simply tearing individuals and the univeristy apart.  I understand that there are many individuals who do not want the univeristy to improve.  I am disappointed that these people have found a comfortable home on this website.  Perhaps this is the reason that so many of the insightful posters from FS are not contributing here.

We should all be somewhat skeptical of the guru's rumors.  Having said that, I have noticed that a couple of things coming from the guru have panned out.  Also remember that it's not guru that has to be believed, it's his/her sources, whoever they are.

Because of the nature of an open, anonymous bulletin board, we have no knowledge of which "side" the guru is actually on. A truly intelligent shelboid might choose to discredit this forum by posting rumors. I'm not suggesting that guru is a shelboid, but I am advising us all (myself included) to take these rumors with an industrial-sized grain of salt & plenty of healthy skepticism.

Ah, it's only been a few months, but already there's a cult of nostalgia for the "good ole days" of Fire Shelby.  If you read FS consistently, you will know that there were plenty of rumors on that board (i.e. Joe Paul leaving USM, etc.) that didn't pan out.  And we were constantly being accused of being hateful by Mach and others.  The AAUP message board is no different in that respect.  What is different is that the rush of news has died down (predictably so, due to the summer break for many folks).  Plenty of the great "out" contributors (Noel Polk, Jameela Lares, Anne Wallace, Jim Hollandsworth, and others) have already posted here.

Don't be an AAUP message board hater....be an AAUP message board participator!    In other words, take everything you read here with a grain (or tablespoon, a la LVN!) of salt and move on.  And if you don't like it here, you don't have to stay.  It's a free country (last time I checked), as they say, full of free speech and free opinions and free email surveillance and free love letters from SFT.  Ain't it grand?

Hang in there folks. It's just the beginning of a long, hot summer. Hard on us Fireshelby/AAUP board junkies not to get our fix of adrendalin-pumping breaking news and/or eloquent defenses of things we believe in. I personally am having withdrawl, desperately needing a good fix of Jim Hollandsworth, present professor, or Judge Cooley.

So have a cool drink, sit back, and brainstorm a bit about things we can do to keep the pressure on over the summer. Has everybody written to the new IHL board members to assure them that morale still sucks and there are still HUGE issues not dealt with? Has everyone gone through their address books to see who else they can ask to sign the petition (including all those folks we took 8th grade science classes with, whatever their names were .. .)? Have you written the Clarion Ledger, the H-A, the Sun Herald? Or explained to your next door neighbor why the article in the Petal paper about Shelby is wrong? Are you setting aside funds for your donation to the Glamser-Stringer AAUP scholarship fund? There are still things that can be done. (Stirring music comes in here . . . .)

Yes, Chess, but I still don't quite understand why you have to be so cryptic and why you seem to enjoy being so cryptic.  Having said that, do you have any new cryptic predictions?  (Translations for thus of us distant from Hattiesburg would be appreciated.)
