Job Shadow on Wednesday
Permalink Closed

Tonight I requested the opportunity to shadow a USM professor all day long.  My faculty contact agreed.  I am going to be there all day Wednesday and I will report back to this board what I learn.

I am not the slightest little bit interested in what you learn. You are a mole trying to turn yourself into a mountain - you are just a stupid troll.

a note from the founder to disgusted student:

you should stop with your psychotropic drugs//they are suppressing true perception of southern miss//if you read my book "scient(ologic)alaban" you will find many answers to the questions that plague you//the book describes the plot by the so-called creative class to reshape the world by brainwashing the youth of america through its colleges and universities//from the energy in your post i divine that you are not a student at southern miss//southern miss students are taught to think critically and your post lacks any trace of critical thinking//read my book//it is available at fine bookstores everywhere//check the barnes and noble on campus//it should be stocked between "how to squeeze in a round of golf with a 2-2 load" and "how to do less all day than most people do by 8:30 a.m."//it also describes my thoughts on how to free yourself from the grasp of the fiendish plot by sending $100 cash to: 118 college drive #1001 hattiesburg, ms 39406//

We'll all be looking for the results. But you need to name the faculty member so that your report can be verified.

I assume you are a student or you would not be on campus unless of course you were trespassing on campus without a permit. Why would a real student waste a precious day following around a faculty member instead of preparing for class or an upcoming test? However, if you must follow your heart, you will want to bring a chair since you will be setting outside an office or classroom for long periods of time. Do not worry; no one will notice you unless you are studying. That will be a dead give away that you are not a real USM student unless it is an hour before the test. You may want to bring bottled water if you are coming to Green Hall. It gets very warm most of these spring days. If you have trouble recording your information, it will have numbers after all, I am sure a faculty member will be glad to do the math for you. The up side of this adventure you are undertaking is that you might learn something and further your education. However your posts do not indicate that you are a fast learner. Thus, we may have the old dilemma of teaching a pig to sing.

Of course, there's the obvious problem of a sample of 1.

Quite so, but explaining basic statistics to a student at the level of Kiln Eagle will take up most of your day. You would have to explain about variance and degrees of freedom. He would want to know how this relates to his job where the phrase "do you want fries with that hamburger" has been the bulk of his training.

Sorry, Cossack. You're way off base here. Part of USM's assessment plan for SACS is to increase access to campus for visitors (Parkign Management), not to block access as you suggest. USM cannot deny access to its campus to any individual who has a reasonable stated reason for being there, even if that reason is "sightseeing". Why do you want to exclude the public from its university? Why is there so much fear of outsiders seeing what goes on from day to day at USM?

Good point...I retract my earlier post!

Wrong once again,

There has been no change in the policy of requiring visitors to get a pass when they enter campus. If you tell them you are coming on campus to sightsee and your purpose is to monitor the behavior of a USM employee, you have lied about your reason. If you told them the truth about your purpose, you likely would run into difficulty since that behavior falls into the stalking category. As far as excluding the public from the university, that decision is up to the university and/or the College Board.

No, Cossack, it is you who are wrong. You are ignoring USM's own written statement. According to the Parking Services' response to strategic plan items SA Goal#1, SM Goal #17, and SM Goal #20, USM is building more parking for visitors and planning for less ticketing of visitors. It's there in black and white on the USM website. Are you saying that I can't stop by USM, tell the gate guard my purpose is to just look around, and then do it? Give me a break. Why don't you put armed guards at all entrances? Why don't you place attack dogs on the perimeter? Anybody who isn't faculty, staff, or student gets shot on sight!

What are you afraid of? That somebody might see you not working? That somebody might walk around and count empty classrooms, empty offices, empty hallways and empty faculty parking spaces? Or are you afraid that I might sneak into your classroom and steal knowledge without registering and paying tuition?
