Although USM is not a declared open admissions institution, it's getting close. Just beware that there is a fine line between an "open door" & a "revolving door." The latter is a great idea: admit marginnaly qualified students, cash in on their tuition & Title IV aid, put them on academic suspension or probation, let them sit out the required time, readmit, rinse & repeat.
This reminds me of a long-ago Doonesbury where the president asks the dean of Walden what their admissions standards are. The dean replies, "We currently don't admit anybody who's serving time for a felony conviction."
