The trials and tribulations of CoB Dean Doty have been posted here ad nauseum. They are real and have been costly. The story that hasn't been properly told here is one of the Shadow Dean of the CoB, Dr. GC, or "Dean C" as many now refer to him.
Dean C "assumed office," not at the request of any central admin, but instead at the abdication of responsibilities (and worse) by (official) Dean Doty, late last Summer. Dean C worked tirelessly to save a key business curriculum, one that Doty was doing his best to eliminate. Dean C was a significant piece of the process of getting the CoB back on its feet post Katrina.
Dean C worked to mitigate advisement problems that popped up recently between CoB faculty and the CoB Advisement Office. More recently than that, Dean C flew back to Hattiesburg from a conference to put out a fire that developed over the promotion of a CoB faculty. Dean Doty was, instead, working to fan the flames of conflict.
What problems have been avoided due to HVAC work scheduled by Doty have largely been due to the managerial skills of Dean C. The list goes on and on (e.g., successfully completed several job searches recently, etc.). Dean C is succeeding as Shadow Dean of the CoB. Doty is now more like Dean Without Portfolio.
