Here are the names and, in some cases, the addresses of state Republican Party officials. They need to hear (especially from Republicans) that Roy Klumb is an embarrassment to the party and that his treatment of USM will help destroy an institution that is vital to the progress of the southern half of the state. I urge Republicans on the board to write to them. I urge non-Republicans to write to them only if a civil tone is used; sending anti-Republican messages will not help the pro-USM (anti-SFT) cause, so, if you can't restrain yourself, it is probably best not to write at all. It may be worth mentioning to them that an extremely well respected Republican leader, Bobby Chain, has now repudiated Klumb and Thames.

On another thread, two posters indicate having heard from a state senator who suggested that contacting the committees assigned to oversee state colleges and universities may be helpful. Below are the members and their addresses; the addresses can be copied-and-pasted as blocks into a single email. In addition to writing to the House and Senate members en masse, it may also be good to target these two committees in particular.

Bump.
(Also, is there any way for anyone to remove the HTML code from the first set of addresses. I'm not sure why it's in there or how to remove it. Thanks!)
Here are the e-mail addresses of the mayor of Hattiesburg, the Hattiesburg Chamber of Commerce, and all the local county commissioners who list their addresses on the official county websites. It may be worth writing to them and asking them why they are willing to sit by and let USM be destroyed. I just sent them (and the IHL) Robert Campbell's latest column.
Sometime last month I was able to find a regular email address for the governor, but I can no longer find that on his site (perhaps I am looking in the wrong place). In any case, here is a link to a more elaborate fill-in-the-blank form for anyone who wants to use it. It may be time to begin pressuring Barbour to pressure the new IHL board.
Below is the list of email addresses of the Alumni Board members, harvested from their website and packaged conveniently so that it is possible to copy-and-paste the addresses en masse and send all the members a single email message.
By the way, if you look at the list of names and addresses, some interesting facts emerge. Two of the members are apparently employed by the Godwin Group, a firm which has been mentioned previously on this board. One of the members is Billy Hewes, another name that has turned up on this board.
Incidentally, I couldn't resist including the name (at the very end) of the person who is the ex-officio chairman of the board.
| Quote |E-mail addresses for MS legislators and senators
I have just "harvested" the e-mail addresses of the members of the Legislature and Senate (see below). These can be collectively copied-and-pasted into one e-mail so that a single message can be sent to the entire Legislature with the click of one button. I have put parentheses and the beginning and end of the list; this means that each legislator and senator will receive what seems to be a private email rather than a message sent to a list. Here is what I am thinking of writing when I send my own message:
AN EMBARRASSMENT TO THE WHOLE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI
Dear Mississippi Legislator,
The recent attempted firing of two distinguished tenured professors at the University of South Mississippi gave the entire state a huge black eye. Just when the dust seemed to be settling a bit, however, the president of the IHL compounded the problem in an extremely inflammatory interview on WLOX on the evening of Sunday, May 2. I can assure you that such events have become a cause of growing concern -- and condemnation -- among academics throughout the country. Indeed, anyone who cares about free speech, free thought, and ethical behavior must be saddened by the reputation Mississippi is receiving through the ill-considered behavior of such senior appointed officials. I hope the Legislature will move to remedy these problems to the extent that it can.
As an outsider observer who is watching this case very closely, I have to say that it HAS been frustrating (as some on the board have already pointed out) to see how little DETAILED coverage the story has been receiving in the Mississippi press. However, since this is a story with definite regional and national (and even international) implications, you may want to try to involve the press beyond Mississippi. A quick google search turned up the links below, which in turn lead to many other links, including (in one case) lists of actual journalists who specialize in investigative reporting. It may be worth it for everyone to begin regularly passing on info about the USM crisis to some of these people. I know that I plan to start doing so and have in fact already started.
Good luck! I admire the courage and determination of the regular contributors to this site.
