Some of you have heard something about a new degree in the college of business. News travels fast, and about everyone in the COB knows about this new HD plan. Here's what HD wants. From time to time a business student accumulates enough total hours for a USM diploma and has sufficient GPA, but can't seem to complete one of the majors in the college. Until they do, they can't graduate.
HD now wants to be able to grant degrees to these people in certain situations. He wants to be able to pull a form out of his desk, sign it, and confer a general business studies degree to some of these students. He wants no mention of this option in the university catalogue, and has no plans to "publicize" this option to business students. Many in the college refer to it as "the secret degree plan." (I heard that HD gets upset when that phrase is used b/c it hints at something "bad.")
My friend in business told me that Doty is in "bunker mentality" phase now. He is using graduate assistants from his and another office as spies. He is making statements to staff that can be construed as threats. And he is stirring the pot between departments there.
Purpose of Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) and Relationship to University
The BIS degree is a University-wide program providing students with individual academic plans designed to meet their specific career or educational goals. The program allows students to combine either two 18-hour course blocks or three 12-hour course blocks to create unique interdisciplinary plans of study. ...
....It appears students are not directly following program rules requiring either two 18-hour blocks or 3 12-hour blocks. Review of transcripts suggest an "anything goes" mentality that does not meet program objectives. Curricular redesign is planned to create one or two required "program core" courses and delineation of course blocks by program or plan....
...Of the three students enrolled during this period, only one completed the required blocks of 18 hours in each of two areas. Two others were granted various exceptions and took a wide array of courses. 100% earned grades of C or higher on all coursework, but not all coursework met the goals and requirements of the program....

I don't know about the bunker thing but the place does look like the set of a Russ Meyer film.
