AAUP MEETING AT MILLSAPS ON APRIL 8 - FOCUS ON PRESIDENTIAL SEARCHES AND SHARED GOVERNANCE - ROGER BOWEN TO KEYNOTE
The meeting of the AAUP state conference postponed by Katrina will take place on Saturday, April 8 at the Leggett Center at Millsaps College, from 9:30 - 4:30.
The theme of the meeting is "Shared Governance in New Century Higher Ed." Featured in an opening session will be the presidential search as a dimension of governance -- a timely topic given the current MSU search and next year's anticipated USM search. Other topics include building strong faculty organizations to defend and promote shared governance, the relationship of accreditation to governance, and higher ed "mega-trends" affecting patterns of governance.
Roger Bowen, general secretary of the national AAUP, will provide keynote remarks. Tom Meredith, IHL commissioner, is invited, but has yet to confirm participation.
Faculty colleagues from across the state are invited to attend. AAUP membership is not required. (A $10 registation fee will help defray expenses of a state conference organization operating on a shoestring budget.) For registration information - garyschong@hotmail.com.
