This may go down as the worst weekend of sports in USM sports history.

Thursday: Lady Eagles softball lose to BYU (4 to 5) and Texas State (0 to 9).  Fall to 0-2 on the 2006 season.

Friday: Lady Eagles softball lose to Texas-Arlington (1 to 2) and Hawaii (1 to 2).  Fall to 0-4 on the young season.  Lady Eagles basketball lose to Tulsa 57-76.  Fall to 10-13 on the season.  The USM men's tennis team falls to UNLV 1-6.  Team falls to 0-2 on the season.

This is just the beginning.  Still have Saturday and Sunday to go.  One thing is clear, while McNutt's softball team spent the preseason on the obstacle course, their first 4 opponents were having softball practice.

but I just saw a great effort by a group of hard working kids giving everything they can for Southern Miss.  To  lose in double overtime to a team like UTEP shows how far they have come this season.  I look forward to next year when our new recruiting class arrives.  This team has improved by leaps and bounds this year, regardless of the record or your opinion.

3 seniors, 1 junior and a freshman starters.....next year 1 senior a soph and 3 frosh?(forgot about juco transfers!)  if history is any indicator at least 2 players will leave/be ask to leave from this years team

as our team shows this year, very hard to compete at div I level with inexperienced players, effort is great but it takes talent
