Doty to cut MIS Program in 4 days!

This story is spreading like a wild fire across all 4 CoB locations/buildings.  I have not many details, but am sure others do.

Just checked, that program has 2 assistants, 1 associate, and 3 professors, 6 total positions.

I told you the whip would miss the proper target.

The other shoe drops. Apparently Doty is not limiting his most recent nastiness to MIS. Others have already been bitched at for not enough research, too many online courses, etc. Rumor has it that one is going to be targeted for "not enough online courses" while his home department is expected to skate.

And MIS stands for--?

Don't they have a policy in the CoB that all curriculum changes have to be voted on by the department, the college curriculum committee, and then the faculty?  Getting rid of a degree program certainly constitutes a major curriculum change, and I don't remember any votes.

It stands for "Management Information Systems."

But somebody must have their facts all screwed up here. I can't imagine circumstances under which a dean would have sole authority to drop a program. This entire line of discussion makes no sense.

MIS-sissippi,

You are correct that this line of discussion makes no sense.  However, if you will review "Pardon Me Too's" present and prior posts, making no sense is the norm.

Pardon Me Too's main objective seems to be to serve as a cheerleader for the Associate Dean, while spreading rumor and innuendo about Doty.

Even if the MIS program were destined for extermination, it is necessary to give students a couple of years to finish their program. It is also necessary to give tenure-track faculty a year's notice. Net effect is no savings the first year and limited savings the second year. It's the third year before you really are out from under. One asumes that the effects of Katrina on USM will be minor by then.

The program will continue to be offered until current students finish by the four remaining MIS people, but from their new departmental locations.  After that, these people will begin to instruct in new areas.  Substantial savings can be had even in the first year from the termination of the searches in these other areas.  More savings will be had after the second year as well.

Please remember that no administrative move is made to benefit the students or faculty. Now with that in mind, any questions?
