Game was not as close as final score. With a 25 point lead, UAB put in subs while USM left in the starters. Eustachy falls to 7-14 (1-5, CUSA) on the season. He's just 3 losses away from last year's total. It looks like he might not get invited to the conference tourney, like last year.
Eustachy now has 18 wins at USM. James Green had 35 or 36 after his first two seasons. Half of Eustachy's 18 came with Jasper Johnson, a player JG brought in.
Unfortunately for those of us who do not like bad basketball, all 12 CUSA teams qualify for the CUSA tournament. The top 4 seeds (currently Memphis, UTEP, UAB, and UCF) get first round byes, while the other 8 teams play single elimination first round games. Prior to this weekend's games, the standings would dictate USM playing Tulsa, who beat USM 72-63 earlier this month.
Interesting CUSA rankings in statistical categories coming into this weekend (CUSA is a 12-team league):
I listened to the UAB crew (something Cox and another guy) call the game. The Blazers are a tough ball club, and Bartow Arena is a hard place to win. Them and Memphis are trying to separate from the rest of the conference. I just hope my Golden Knights can keep pace in the new few years.
