In explaining Eustachy's dismal record at USM (18-27), much is often made about the poor state that former coach James Green left the mens bball program in. Rick Reeves' mismanagement of the women's program is also often said to account for Lee-McNelis weak start (15-29) over the same time period.
Did Joye Lee-McNelis leave the Memphis program in a similar state when she was "hired away" from Memphis by Thames? In her final three years at Memphis, the Lady Tigers were a disappointing 45-42. In the year and a half since then, they are 15-29, the same record JLM has since produced at USM.
Isn't it fair for Memphis fans to complain that JLM left their program in shambles?
It's probably a Catch-22 for Memphis fans. Sure, the program was left in a poor state by McNelis, but then again, they did get her out of their hair. It's strange that in a basketball rich town like Memphis that she couldn't recruit better talent than 45-42. of course, maybe it wasn't the talent....
