"Boyles Seeks Compensation from USM" by Bob Pittman
Excerpts:
"U.S. Senator Trent Lott's new Chief of Staff has advised the University of Southern Mississippi that the University owes him some $170,000 for services he performed in connection with the Trent Lott Center for Economic Development under construction on the campus."
...
"...Boyles left Lott's staff to create a political action and political campaign consulting firm, The Principles Strategies Group, in Washington.
It was through the consulting firm that Boyles was paid for his fund raising efforts in support of the Trent Lott Center ..."
...
"It is unclear whether the $170,000 is in addition to the $8,000 per month he was paid while actively seeking funds for the Center."
It's good to see that Bob Pittman and The Independent is continuing with superb investigative reporting.
"It is unclear whether the $170,000 is in addition to the $8,000 per month he was paid while actively seeking funds for the Center."
My word! $8,000 per month X 12 months = an annual rate of $96,000. Is that a full time job? Who was to pay the monthly $8,000? Not Southern Miss I hope.

The article says the funds were to come from the Foundation out of the money Boyles raised.
"Sources close to the Foundation project said it was their understanding that the $170,000 billed by Boyles represented his "commission" for funds he raised, all of which may not have been received by the University at this time"
"Boyles is an economic development graduate of the University and launched his career with the Senator as an intern in the Washington office after his graduation from Southern Miss."

So this is what economic development teaches: get a degree, get a job with a US Senator, milk your alma mater out of tens of thousands of dollars for doing your job, contribute to the cronyism ruling the university and state, and add, ever so slightly, to the culture of corruption consuming Washington and USM. Nice job if you can get it and have few scruples.
