Eagle athletics in full meltdown

Football lost to Memphis last night 22-24.  Bower's bunch now 5-5 and reeling.  Memphis tallied about 500 yards of offense on USM's D.

Out in Alaska, Eustachy's bunch lost 30-44 to Denver (pee-wee score?).  Went about 12 minutes in the second half without scoring, and had only 2 baskets the entire 2nd half.  Looks like what Lee-McNelis did against Southern Utah in the Greenhouse on Friday night.

Football takes on Tulane next week.  Must win to get any bowl consideration.  Even with win, may be staying home for first time since 2001.

Men's b-ball take on San Diego State tonight --- the favorite to win the TOW Classic in Alaska.

Eagle Talk is about to implode.

It's a d*mn game. I wish Eagle Talk, et. al. would give a tenth of the energy and attention to academics they do to sports. The football player's fame lasts four years, unless he's one of the few, few who can go pro. That degree lasts a lifetime and makes all the difference in his ability to earn a living.

Your ever lovin' football program was doing better under President Horace Fleming than it is under the new regime you boosters helped install.

The mens' and womens' basketball programs have also gone into the tank since Fleming was outed and the current university leader has come on board. What are the boosters trying to do to our athletic programs and to our university?

I think you're way off base. Football success is much more important than academics. It's people like you that detract from our winning more games.

Colonel Truth forgot to use the correct punctuation.  I will do it for the Colonel.  You need to use this

The real problem with USM athletics is that nobody in the athletic department truly has any "big time" experience. Eustachy has the highest-profile resume, and he was at a middling Big 12 school.

If USM wants the right kind of athletic success, it needs to go to a successful program in the Pac 10, SEC, Big 10, or Big 12 and get an associate AD to replace Giannini. These people will know just how much money is necessary to run a top-flight program, something that Giannini obviously has no clue about. Giannini has tried to boost USM's athletics on the backs of the Hattiesburg taxpayers instead of giving USM boosters a "do or die" ultimatum: contribute in a meaningful way or be relegated to second-class.

I see an awful lot of degrees awarded in Starkville among SFT's big "athletic supporters." 'Nuff said.

If you are suggesting that USM's downward path in athletics is part of a plan to enhance the programs in Starkville, this would give new meaning to the athletic phrase we know and love "The Rock." That phrase should be changed to "The Rocks" - USM is "on the rocks."
