What part of this quote, in your opinion, is B.S.?
"But, Powell went on to say that that the pay increases within the College of Science and Technology were considered merit raises, and the monies involved came from outside the budget. “How come only one college received them?” asked Powell. “If the administration is calling for equity, then why weren't the colleges given equity?”Powell said than even if all the colleges had been given equal pay increases, the faculty senate would have still had questions for the administration. “There is such a thing as shared governance at a university,” he said."
Were the administrative raises equity or merit raises? Can you get equity raises without asking? Can you get merit raises for performance in a year you are put on academic probation?

I think we all need to be careful with the idea of "loving" an institution. Such "love" can all too easily--among us fallen human beings--turn into loving one's own vision of an institution, that is, of loving one's own self at the expense of all else.
I would much rather see all who work for USM be in love with truth and fair dealing. That is the kind of love that enobles an institution and makes it a valuable place to work.

This can only make sense to SFT.
Well, heck we know they weren't MERIT raises. What has any administrator done to deserve a MERIT raise? I'm being sarcastic.

Interesting, but you may be onto something. Because if there is anything that this board is the irrefutable expert on it is "the love of self".

Welcome back Seeker. I disagree with your "love of self" implication. USM faculty are the most giving I have met. When you consider their pay in relation to other institutions many would call them "missionaries".
It is SFT that confuses "what is good for him is good for USM" or "what is good for Polymer Sci is good for USM" without checking to see how much damage is being done to other areas he doesn't know about or doesn't value.
